When Autumn Leaves Begin to Fall

Thank gawd its sweata weatha.

Unabashedly, unashamedly I love me some autumn. It’s the Michigander in me. It is why we endure the months of gray sleet snow rain. It is, for a glorious few week, truly exquisite here.

One of my favorite places growing up, was the library. And there’s this place on Main Street in Ann Arbor called Kouzina’s where you can get a fairly good gyro - but their real secret is their Apple Phyllo Swirl (it’s a fall special.) Pair it with some pumpkin spice in hot coffee with a great book and it is the coziest feeling in the world.

I get seasonal depression. Real bad. Michigan is second only to Washington when it comes to States with the least amount of sunlight. Working on that daily practice with more meditation and vitamin D during the darker half of the year has started helping as well as regular therapy. This is the time of the year when I’ve usually got two or three candles going if I’m home - just to give a little extra orange glow in the shadowy corners of the house on longer, colder evenings. And the smell of pie and loved ones coming over for game night or carving up pumpkins before handing out the king size candy bars helps a lot.
