A People-Positive Management style…

So there’s this show
And it’s about pirates…
And it’s not often that a show hits all my buttons and encourages multiple rewatches.
But this one sure did.
Our Flag Means Death is one of the loveliest, funniest little shows out there right now and I never thought that I would have ticked off the Goofy Pirate Show about Stede Bonnet as a number one inspiration for a candle scent. But as I watched this loveable Kiwi in teal find love and growth on the high seas, I started asking myself… what would Stede Bonnet’s hidden closet smell like?

Well, if you’re part of the Crew, you already knew… we had to get some Orange in there somewhere. From the 40 Orange Glaze cake to throwing gunpowder overboard to make more room for marmalade, the Gentleman Pirate loves his citrus. I kept thinking back that little boy picking white flowers before getting tied to the rowboat by his bullies and realized that this was a man who values plants and kind eyes: he smells like Orange Blossom.

Oak, clearly for a quality Captain- fresh wood recently cut and fitted for a gentleman’s library complete with hidden trap doors for auxiliary wardrobe.

Amber was often burned by sailors as they set sail - burnt as incense in offerings to many faiths across the ages. And there is a recurring motif of petrified objects finding new life and meaning within this show*

And finally a spot of good fragrant Earl Gray tea, shared comfortably between co-Captains.

*That said, fossilized oranges rarely make good gifts.

*Still the best use of Fleetwood Mac onscreen ever. Everyone else go home.
